The Vision Council’s Vision Health Alliance announced several events taking place in conjunction with Vision Expo West in Las Vegas.
Vision Health Alliance is a new consumer education initiative that champions eye health as an important part of overall health and eye health exams as essential components of health care, Vision Council said in a press release.
Today, Sept. 23, volunteers from Vision Health Alliance, Vision Council and EyeCare4Kids were scheduled to assemble 500 emergency eye care kits in the Vision Expo West exhibit hall to be distributed to those in need across Nevada. The kits contain contact lens cases, lens care cleaners, eye wash, spectacle repair tools, polishing cloths and wipes provided by HilcoVision, according to the press release.
Also today, Vision Health Alliance and EyeCare4Kids was scheduled to host a mobile eye care clinic and press conference at Roundy Elementary School in Clark County, Nevada. Children will receive a vision screening and eye exam, then eyeglasses if necessary, according to the release. Members of the Clark County School District and the Nevada Optometric Association will address increasing access to eye care and the benefits of prioritizing eye health during the press conference.
A panel discussion, “Better access, brighter future: Increasing access to early eye exams and prioritizing eye health in preventive health care,” is scheduled for Sept. 24 in the Vision Expo West exhibit hall. Participants will include: Vision Health Alliance executive director Jane Balek, representatives from the Nevada Optometric Association, optician and EyeCare4Kids President and CEO Joseph Carbone and HilcoVision global head of marketing John Lakey.
“We’re thrilled to introduce Vision Health Alliance to the vision care community at Vision Expo West through impactful events and insightful discussions,” Balek said in the press release. “The activities we’ve planned are designed not only to help increase access to care locally but to encourage meaningful discussion about making eye care part of one’s overall health care plan.”
“This is a great example of how leaders in the vision community can come together to help address access and equity in health care through strategic partnerships and investment,” EyeCare4Kids executive director Stephanie Kirby said in the release.
