Alcon has announced its plans to release Total30, the company’s first Water Gradient contact lens reusable for up to 30 days.
According to a company press release, the material used in the Total30 lens was previously introduced with Dailies Total1 contact lenses.
“While daily disposable contact lenses remain appealing to many lens wearers, approximately two-thirds of contact lens wearers globally choose reusable lenses,” president and general manager of Alcon’s Global Vision Care, Andy Pawson, said in the release. “Despite this preference, innovation within the reusable lens segment has lagged behind daily disposables over the past 10 years. Today, we change that by delivering a reusable lens with a Water Gradient surface that remains durable for a full 30 days to help people see brilliantly.”
According to the press release, Total30 uses new technology that “combines a biomimetic surface and a unique lens chemistry to help resist bacteria and lipid deposits,” and with daily cleaning it remains intact for 30 days.
Total30 will be available in the U.S. in September 2021, in some European countries before the end of the year and in all of Europe in 2022, according to the release.
