Johnson & Johnson Vision announced the launch of Acuvue Oasys Multifocal with Pupil Optimized Design for patients with presbyopia.

The company said in a press release that the new lens is embedded with a proprietary wetting agent and has a pupil optimized design and hybrid back curve technology, allowing patients with presbyopia to see objects at all distances.

All three Johnson & Johnson presbyopia products — Acuvue Oasys Multifocal, 1–Day Acuvue Moist Brand Multifocal and Acuvue Oasys 2–Week for Presbyopia Multifocal — are UV blocking. Johnson & Johnson built onto its 2–week platform to create the new lens.

“This Acuvue Oasis Multifocal contact lens brings a long-awaited solution to patients with presbyopia who have been looking for continuous, clear and comfortable vision at all distances,” Xiao-Yu Song, MD, PhD, Global Head of Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson Vision, said in the release.

The FDA approved the lens in 2020, and it is now available in the U.S. and Canada in both the daily disposable and reusable modalities. It received a CE mark in February 2021 and is expected to launch in Europe later this year, according to Johnson & Johnson.
