Volk Optical announced the release of its patent-pending ClearPod for mask-related fogging during fundus examination.

Designed to allow clinicians to retain their natural grip on the lens, the ClearPod clips onto the Volk 90-D and 78-D fundus lenses, directing air currents away from the lens surface to allow for uninterrupted retinal view, the company said in a press release.

“The ClearPod has been incredibly beneficial for both our students and providers in a variety of practice settings. ... The device is easy for anyone to hold behind the slit lamp and provides an accurate working distance for examination,” Timothy Bossie, OD, FAAO, New England College of Optometry, said in the release. “The ClearPod exceeded our expectations in terms of limiting fog [formation] on diagnostic lenses and has greatly improved image quality.”

The company reported in the release that the ClearPod will be available early this year for its Digital Wide Field and SuperField lenses.
