Zeiss Vision Care US announced the launch of UVClean to ease compliance with hygiene protocols in the optical dispensary.

UVClean fits on a desktop and sanitizes 6 to 10 pairs of eyeglasses, “in as little as 40 seconds,” Zeiss said in a press release.

The company developed the device in conjunction with Voxelight LLC, and it is now available for pre-order in the U.S. and Canada.

“The launch of Zeiss UVClean addresses an urgent need within the industry. After COVID-19 hit, we quickly noticed that frame and lens disinfecting has become a major drag on productivity in eye care dispensaries,” Jens Boy, president of Zeiss Vision Care North America, said in the release. “Most improvised solutions involve liquids, chemicals, smells and potentially create a lot of waste. Meanwhile, most UVC disinfecting devices are either repurposed medical/industrial cabinets or basic consumer electronics boxes. The Zeiss UVClean is specifically designed from the ground up to help eye care practices spend less time cleaning and more time engaging with their patients.”

According to the release, the device requires less time than soap and water and does not damage frames the way alcohol-based solutions and hydrogen peroxide can.
