The Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society announced the availability of an executive summary of the TFOS Dry Eye Workshop II report that is customized for patients.

''This summary is written in lay language and contains new figures related to the classification and pathophysiology of dry eye disease,” TFOS founder David A. Sullivan, MD, said in a press release from the group. “In the near future we also hope to make this patient-focused executive summary available in Wikipedia.”

The patient summary includes: the definition of dry eye disease, an explanation of different types of dry eye, related pain, staged management and treatment, and a glossary.

TFOS recognizes the importance of patients having access to reliable, accurate, relevant and comprehensive information about dry eye disease, the group said in the release.

The announcement was made at the end of July, which was designated as Dry Eye Awareness Month.
