Alcon announced the launch of Air Optix plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism in the U.S.

The company said in a press release that the lens is indicated for daily or extended wear for up to 6 nights for treating myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and/or astigmatism, with a recommended monthly replacement schedule.

Air Optix plus HydraGlydev for Astigmatism, made of lotrafilcon B material with a back surface toric design, contains the HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix to increase surface moisture, Precision Balance design to hold the lens in place during blinking and SmartShield Technology to help guard against deposit build-up, Alcon said in the release.

“We see the need for a monthly toric contact lens that performs as well on the last day of wear as the first and we are dedicated to providing options whether a patient is new to our lenses or interested in upgrading from one of Alcon’s existing astigmatism products,” Alcon U.S. Vision Care general manager, Sean Clark, said in the press release.

The lens is available in spherical powers of +6.00 D to -6.00 D in 0.25-D steps and -6.50 D to -10.00 D in 0.50-D steps with cylinder powers of -0.75 D, -1.25 D, -1.75 D and -2.25 D, according to the company’s website. The base curve is 8.7 mm, diameter is 14.5 mm, water content is 33%, the Dk is 110.
