Mass. ODs continue to strive for glaucoma treatment privileges
Optometrists in Massachusetts are attempting once again to obtain the right to treat glaucoma with the filing of SD74, “An act ensuring consumer choice and equal access to eye care.”
A similar version of this bill, which was filed by Senator Michael O. Moore (D-Second Worcester), was filed in the 2017-2018 legislative session as H1169 by Representative Patricia A. Haddad (D-Somerset).
If the bill is approved, Massachusetts optometrists would be able to treat diagnose, prevent, correct and manage glaucoma and prescribe topical and oral prescription glaucoma agents.
