Contamac announced the launch of Optimum Infinite, a gas permeable contact lens material with a higher combination of oxygen permeability and flexural modulus.
According to the company’s press release, tests conducted by Joe Benjamin, OD, MS, PhD, of Material Performance Assessments LLC, showed that Optimum Infinite has an oxygen permeability value of 200.4 Dk. Internal tests exhibited a high flexural modulus of 1,341 Mpa, breaking the high Dk-low flexural modulus convention.
Optimum Infinite’s properties are suitable for scleral lenses, corneal and orthokeratology lens designs, the company said. The product includes UV blocker, is available in customizable larger diameter sizes and is compatible with Tangible Hydra-PEG, according to the press release.
“Optimum Infinite is the product of highly innovative thinking on the part of our in-house chemists, but ultimately it was sparked by leading industry professionals telling us what they wanted,” Rob McGregor, Contamac managing director, said in the release. “It’s a worthy top-of-the-range addition to the Optimum family of GP materials.”
Optimum Infinite has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for a full range of indications, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and aphakia, according to Contamac’s press release.
