SCO tops programs for ultimate pass rate for optometry exams
The pass rates for the 2017-2018 academic year are available on the website of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for every optometric institution as the result of a partnership with the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry.
The last school year’s report is also posted for comparison.
The results are calculated using the scores of candidates who have both graduated between Oct. 1, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2018, and attempted all three parts of the exam at least once, according to Jill Bryant, OD, FAAO, National Board of Examiners in Optometry executive director, in a press release from the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry.
The ratings include the number of candidates, the first time pass rate for the Part I ABS, Part II PAM and Part III CSE, and an ultimate pass rate, which is the percentage of the candidate group that passed all three exams.
The top five schools with the highest ultimate pass rates were: Southern College of Optometry (100%); University of California/Berkeley (98.41%); State University of New York (97.80%); University of Alabama at Birmingham (97.73%); and Indiana University (97.22%).
Those with the five lowest ultimate pass rates were: MCPHS University (67.31%); Inter American University of Puerto Rico (76.00%); Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry (81.67%); University of Missouri/St. Louis (84.62%); and Salus University (85.28%).
