Versant Health sends Vision Loss Simulator to eye care providers
Versant Health has partnered with Transitions Optical to create a Vision Loss Simulator intended to highlight the impact failing eye health can have on vision.
The simulator was sent to 10,000 eye care providers for use in their practice as a way to educate patients. Viewers can get an idea of what vision would be like if they had glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, presbyopia, glare or age-related macular degeneration.
The Vision Loss Simulator uses virtual reality goggles, Mobile360 or a desktop interface to portray how everyday activities would be affected by these various eye diseases. Information on prevention is also included within the simulator.
“Vision loss is something we all know could happen, but many of us don't realize the real impact it can have until it actually occurs," Nate Kenyon, vice president of provider operations and support for Versant Health, said in a company release. "The Vision Loss Simulator allows patients to see for themselves 'what if' long before the reality of any potential vision impairment sets in, as well as allowing care givers to see for themselves the impact vision loss is having on their loved ones."
