Diopsys announces retinal function screening protocol

Diopsys Inc. introduced the Chromatic Flash Vision Screener, a screening protocol designed to detect early retinal function changes in patients with diabetes.

The company noted in a press release that the in-office screener will use red-on-blue flash electroretinography to record the electrical potential of the retina and provide quantitative measurements of retinal function. Results are then compared to a healthy reference range to indicate the probability of the patient developing diabetic retinopathy.

The protocol is part of the Diopsys full field electroretinography module and compatible with all new Diopsys platforms.

Diopsys believes the Chromatic Flash Vision Screener will address an unmet need for early recognition of retinal function changes.

“In diabetic retinopathy, we know functional changes will likely happen before structural changes, and to now have the ability to measure retinal function via this new test from Diopsys is truly a game changer,” Nate Lighthizer, OD, FAAO, said in the release.
