Good long-term outcomes are difficult to achieve in refractive and cataract surgery patients if ocular surface disease is not effectively managed, according to David Hardten, MD, here at the Twin Cities Ocular Surface Disease Symposium.

“It’s important to identify the fact that they have ocular surface disease and educate them about it and figure out a treatment plan that will be useful for them preoperatively and postoperatively,” he said.

Disclosure: Hardten reported he has lectured for, consulted for or received speaking honoraria from: Allergan, Johnson & Johnson, Shire and TearFilm.
