EyeQue completes Series B funding

EyeQue announced that the Series B round of funding has closed, and $11.2 million was raised from existing investors, bringing the company’s total raised equity to $16.2 million.

“With this infusion of capital, we will accelerate product development, service enhancements and product launches,” John Serri, PhD, cofounder and chief technology officer of EyeQue, said in a press release.

The newly raised funds will help with EyeQue’s continued effort to bring at-home vision testing to people around the world. Founded in 2015 by Tibor Láczay and John Serri, EyeQue looks to corner the personalized wellness and wearable fitness devices market with at-home vision tools. The Insight and the Personal Vision Tracker are two vision solutions created by EyeQue that present test results and vision changes over time.

The EyeQue Insight visual acuity screener – which can be shared with many people – screens for 20/20 to 20/400 in about a minute and creates a digital vision history that will indicate when to go to an eye care professional. The Insight screener can also test the accuracy of current glasses or contacts and alert the user when prescriptions should be updated, according to the release. Additionally, the screener records results instantly and stores them securely, allowing the data to be shared with others.

As an in-home, mobile refraction error test, the EyeQue Personal Vision Tracker measures nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Using EyeQue’s patented cloud technology, the results are processed quickly, and it provides spherical, cylindrical and axis figures, according to the release. Moreover, the EyeGlass Number provided by the tracker allows consumers to order corrective eye wear from retailers including Zenni, EyeBuyDirect and Glasses USA.

Both the EyeQue Insight visual acuity screener and the EyeQue Personal Vision Tracker are available and sold directly to consumers.

“We’ve challenged people to think differently about vision care and to take an active role in their eye health by introducing the world’s first smartphone-enabled at-home vision tests,” Serri said. “With our first-generation products, we’ve provided a way for people to test their vision, track changes and even order new eyeglasses with their results.”
