BHVI, WCO partner for Myopia Awareness Week
Brien Holden Vision Institute announced a partnership with the World Council of Optometry that will center around a campaign to promote Myopia Awareness Week in 2019.
“We are thrilled to join with the World Council of Optometry on this much larger campaign to raise awareness on a global scale,” BHVI CEO Kovin Naidoo, OD, PhD, MPH, said in a press release. “The partnership will garner the support of industry and other key players to make sure the message of the looming public health crisis and the need for action reaches large sectors of the general population as well as practitioners.”
According to the release, nearly half of the world’s population will be myopic, and 1 billion will be in the “high myopia” category by 2050.
“Our aim will be to raise awareness about the impact myopia is likely to have on the lives of our children, highlight the critical role optometrists play in treating myopia and help keep practitioners informed about emerging trends in myopia control and management,” WCO President Scott Mundle, OD, said in the release.
