The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences School of Optometry, Boston, announced that it has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education for its professional optometric degree program.

“Dedication to quality optometric education was at the heart of the tremendous effort needed to achieve this outcome,” Morris Berman, OD, dean of the MCPHS University School of Optometry, said in a press release.

Accreditation was based on a report taken during the evaluation of MCPHS University School of Optometry’s professional optometric degree program in March 2017, according to the release.

In 2011 MCPHS founded the School of Optometry, making it the 21st optometry school in the U.S. According to the press release, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) found that the program at MCPHS School of Optometry met the ACOE standards and had, “no deficiencies or weaknesses that compromised the educational effectiveness of the total program.”

“The faculty worked cohesively over several years to create an excellent program,” Berman said. “There is a certain pride that comes with building something new. Our faculty, staff, students and graduates should all be very proud.”
