Bausch + Lomb has entered into a worldwide licensing agreement with Tangible Science to offer the Tangible Hydra-PEG advanced contact lens coating technology on several of its Boston gas-permeable materials and scleral lenses.

“Our agreement with Bausch + Lomb is an important milestone for Tangible Science, as it demonstrates support for our unique Tangible Hydra-PEG contact lens coating from one of the world’s largest and most influential eye care companies,” Vic McCray, CEO at Tangible Science, told Primary Care Optometry News. “The addition of B+L to the list of lenses and materials offering Tangible Hydra-PEG now makes the coating available on most of the world’s leading custom contact lenses, providing a breadth of options for eye care professionals and custom lens manufacturers.”

Tangible Hydra-PEG is a high-water polymer coating that is bonded to the surface of a contact lens, with improved wettability and increased surface water retention and lubricity, according McCray.

“It has been shown to be effective for a variety of challenging patient conditions, including scleral or corneal lens discomfort, dry eye disease, lens filming and fogging, and surface deposit build-up,” he said. “The B+L relationship responds to feedback we have received from ECPs asking for Tangible Hydra-PEG on more materials, so we are delighted to be able to provide greater choice for both ECPs and patients.”

The Tangible Hydra-PEG advanced contact lens coating technology is expected to be available with several of Bausch + Lomb’s Boston GP materials, including Boston XO, Boston XO2, Boston EO, and Boston ES, along with the Zenlens and Zen RC scleral lenses by the end of the year, according to a press release from the two companies.
