Johnson & Johnson Vision recommended that the FTC clarify the intent of its proposed changes to the Contact Lens Rule while upholding the brand requirement and non-substitution, the company announced.
The FTC comment period on proposed changes to the Contact Lens Rule following the March public workshop in Washington closed on April 6.
Johnson & Johnson Vision thanked hundreds of eye care professionals who submitted comments to the FTC, in an announcement from the company.
On March 7, J&J Vision took part in the testimony at the public workshop with Peter Menziuso and Carol Lakkis, BScOptom, PhD, advocating for patient safety, as an addendum to the comments submitted to the agency.
In addition to retaining the brand requirement, the company seeks to uphold contact lens prescription requirements, enforcing the prohibition on unauthorized alteration of the prescription.
Further, J&J advocated to reaffirm a commitment to the 1-year contact lens prescription expiration limit, while strengthening the future of the eye health landscape. The company said in the announcement that it intends to ensure patients receive access to the latest care with the most appropriate technologies to suit their needs.
