Researcher launches informational myopia website

Thomas Aller, OD, FBCLA,
has launched an educational and informational website, ManageMyopia.org, to enable easy access to a centralized source of carefully vetted data to help eye care professionals provide better care.The clinically reviewed resource will summarize the latest data on myopia, making it easier for a busy eye care professional to find, analyze and apply, according to a press release.
Aller, who has conducted myopia control research for more than 25 years, is the clinical content editor and curator for the website.
"The goal of ManageMyopia.org is to provide busy eye care professionals, as well as students and others within the industry in the U.S. and globally, with the latest data and insights into the causes, treatment and innovations in myopia management,” Aller told Primary Care Optometry News.
“There have been some truly remarkable advances in the field over the past few years,” he continued. “However, I know how hard it can be to keep up with all the clinical journals and research today, on top of running an independent practice.”

S. Barry Eiden, OD, FAAO, president and medical director of North Suburban Vision Consultants Ltd. and an assistant clinical professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago’s Department of Ophthalmology.
Alan N. Glazier, OD, FAAO, Dipl ABO, founder of the Shady Grove Eye and Vision Care, ODs on Facebook and ODsonFB.com, and the MyopiaInstitute.com.

Christine Wildsoet, DipAppSc(Optom) , BSc(PharmHons) PhD, FAAO, professor at the School of Optometry/Vision Science Program, University of California, Berkeley. Wildsoet also heads the Berkeley Myopia Research Group, chairs a committee for the International Myopia Institute and serves on the advisory board for MyFun, a European-based myopia research consortium.
The website focuses on evidence-based clinical data, practical treatment options and hands-on management strategies.
“Having a single authoritative site, vetted by globally recognized experts, that provides practical, real-world knowledge, is going to help ODs bring improved vision to patients while better managing their daily practice,” Aller said. “Users are encouraged to register to have access to regular contributions from experts from all around the world on subjects such as practice management and patient care."
Aller holds several patents in the field of myopia and is currently a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry, as well as adjunct professor, University of Houston College of Optometry. – by Abigail Sutton
