VIDEO: Early keratoconus detection allows for earlier intervention
NEW YORK – Corneal cross-linking is a good tool for improving the quality of life for patients with keratoconus, Clark Chang, OD, said here at Vision Expo East. However, early detection is crucial.
Risk factors include: heavy eye rubbing habits, younger age, eye rubbing not controlled by dry eye or allergy medications, and strong family history. These patients should be evaluated every 2 or 3 months to allow for early diagnosis and expanded treatment options.
