ABB Optical Group released data from its fall 2017 efficiency survey that found an increase in efficiency when orders were consolidated through a distributor and analyzed the top six considerations for optometry practices when ordering soft contact lenses.

The press release from ABB Optical Group identified a broad portfolio, access and choice as the most important consideration to 100% of eye care professionals.

The survey also concluded that 1- to 2-day shipping, at 99%, was the second most important consideration, while convenient online ordering, direct patient shipping and access to one bill were tied for third, with 96% finding them important considerations. Training and tools for staff, while still a consideration for eye care professionals, was last on the list, with only 86% finding it important.

On average, practices spend 70 minutes managing soft contact lenses, including ordering, inventory management and administrative time.

“More than 90% of practices agree that consolidating orders through a distributor makes their practice run more efficiently,” Aaron See, vice president of marketing for ABB Optical Group, said in the release.
