Tangible Science announced that its contact lens product family now includes FDA-approved daily disposables.

The first offering will be a daily disposable hydrogel lens that incorporates a reformulation of the proprietary Tangible polymer into the lens material and packaging and will be sold and distributed by SynergEyes, according to a press release from Tangible Science.

The company said the new line of lenses “leverages the polymer-based science behind its successful Tangible Hydra-PEG coating that has improved comfort for custom contact lenses.”

Tangible Science CEO Vic McCray, MD, told Primary Care Optometry News that the first disposable lenses will be available this summer.

“The first offering through SynergEyes will be a spherical daily disposable hydrogel lens with prescriptions ranging from -6.00 D to +4.00 D,” he said.

McCray said in the release: “We are pro-doctor and pro-doctor/patient relationship. It has always been our goal to offer our technology across all types of contact lenses, and we are happy to be able to provide doctors with a comfortable and cost-effective daily disposable lens they can offer their patients.”

He said that SynergEyes has demonstrated a similar commitment to supporting doctors and patients.

“They are a trusted partner in the custom lens market where, together, we have made a real difference in patients’ lives,” McCray said in the release. “This partnership into the disposable lens category is the next logical step in our relationship.”

He told PCON: “This lens collaboration with SynergEyes is the first in a pipeline of disposable lenses of different materials and modalities (which may include other partners) that will leverage the Tangible technology.”

He said the company plans to launch Tangible Clean, a daily cleaning solution, in mid-2018, and Tangible Boost, a monthly conditioning solution for gas-permeable lenses coated with Tangible Hydra-PEG, in late 2018. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
