Lions Eye launches global network for tissue distribution, training
The Lions Eye Institute for Transplant and Research announced the launch of One World Sight Alliance, a global network that aims to eradicate preventable blindness through international tissue distribution and training.
“Through the formation of One World Sight Alliance, we’ve created an unparalleled global network of a growing number of more than 20 eye banks distributing about 15,000 corneas a year across the U.S. and around the world,” Jason Woody, president and CEO of Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research, said in a press release from the group. “Over the years, eye banks have demonstrated their ability to change industry practice and patient outcomes for the better. [One World Sight Alliance] will apply its singular knowledge and experience to teach the global community best practices in eye banking and corneal transplant surgery with the ultimate goal of eliminating preventable blindness.”
The alliance will offer tissue distribution across the globe, surgeon training and eye bank development.
