Leica Camera AG, in collaboration with Novacel, is adding ophthalmic lenses to its existing portfolio of cameras, lenses and sport optics products, according to a press release.

The lenses will feature the AquaDura coating, which protects against water, dirt and damage.

“Leica’s optical expertise has stood for best pictures and visual experiences for more than 100 years,” Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of the supervisory board of Leica Camera AG, said in the release. “The Leica Eyecare ophthalmic lens portfolio is, therefore, a logical step forward in our strategic business development program.”

The lenses are being distributed by Novacel, starting Oct. 1.
