LAS VEGAS – Shamir announced expanded material availability of its blue light blocking treatment as well as the launch of a new visual reality video to showcase the benefits of the Shamir Attitude III fashion and sport lens.

In press releases distributed at Vision Expo West, the company said that Shamir Blue Zero is now available in polycarbonate in addition to Trivex and SuperLite 1.67, which became available in June.

Shamir Blue Zero blocks up to 98% of high energy visible blue light in the 415 nm to 435 nm range, according to the release, in addition to providing 100% UV protection.

The treatment is now available in Shamir’s full line of Freeform lens designs, the company stated.

“The results from overexposure to blue light are becoming an increasingly talked about topic amongst the industry as more and more studies reveal its negative impact,” Mark Becker, vice president of marketing and strategic partnerships, said in the release. “As patients and practitioners continue to ask for a protective solution, we want to ensure we offer them a complete range of material options to satisfy their needs.”

The virtual reality (VR) video designed to showcase the benefits of the Shamir Attitude III is a revised version of a VR video for Shamir WorkSpace launched in September 2016, the company said. The viewer will be taken through a variety of daily outdoor activities to highlight the advantages of the lens.

“As a technology-driven company, it is important for us to continually develop innovative ways to equip partners with the means to educate patients,” Becker said in the release.
