Primary Care Optometry News will sponsor the American Academy of Optometry’s plenary session as well as its Anterior Segment Section symposium during the AAO’s annual meeting in Chicago in October.

In “The Eye as a Mirror of the Brain,” the plenary session speakers will discuss the role of the retina in brain diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis.

Speakers include: Robert C. Sergott, MD, director, Neuro-Ophthalmology Service, Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia; Chris Hudson, BSc, PhD, MCOptom, FAAO, PgCUT, professor in the University of Waterloo Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science, director of retinal research at University Health Network and scientist at Toronto Western Research Institute; and Maria Bedny, MA, PhD, assistant professor at Johns Hopkins Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Baltimore.

The plenary session takes place Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Anterior Segment Section Symposium will highlight “New Perspectives in Dry Eye: Neuropathic Corneal Pain.”

Speakers include PCON Editorial Board member Scott G. Hauswirth, OD, assistant professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Denver; Anat Galor, MD, associate professor of clinical ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami; and Leslie Small, OD, of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

This symposium takes place Oct. 13, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
