Shamir reported that it will discontinue older products to focus on digital lenses and add a line of blue light-blocking lenses and a new app.

Citing the importance of technology and customization, Shamir announced in a press release that it will be discontinuing molded products, offering only semi-finished single vision freeform lenses.

Shamir is also launching Shamir Blue Zero lenses, which block high-energy visible blue light. This product is beneficial for progressive, single vision and work solution lenses, the company said.

To show patients the difference between reading and progressive lenses and those made specifically for the work environment, Shamir is launching a Visual Reality app. The app is free to download and includes three videos that demonstrate different lens options.

“The virtual reality app is another way of showcasing our dedication in providing innovative tools that not only assist eye care practitioners but help patients understand how specially designed lenses for their profession can enhance their everyday life. Shamir’s technology is at the forefront of our success and we want to share that with our partners,” Mark Becker, Shamir vice president of marketing and strategic partnerships, said in the release.
