D-Eye, a developer of devices for mass health screenings, has launched a new version of its digital eye examination and screening tool, according to a press release.

The new tool, called D-Eye 2.0 Image Select, is a lens add-on that fits onto an iPhone and turns it into a digital opthalmoscope-camera, which allows for easy, portable video recording and transmitting of retinal examinations.

“We believe that D-Eye will help usher in a new era of eye care screening and the monitoring of serious eye-related diseases like glaucoma and advanced diabetic retinopathy and many other retinal pathologies of children and adults,” Alberto Scarpa, CEO of D-Eye, said in the release. “Its portability and affordability means that any practitioner can be equipped with this sight-saving tool, making critical eye examinations more accessible for earlier detection and treatment.”

The D-Eye 2.0 Image Select comes with step-by-step instructions and allows optometrists to record a video of the retina of either a miotic or mydriatic eye. Images can be selected from the video, saved into a patient’s digital file and shared with colleagues, according to the release.
