WSD celebrates 10-year anniversary
Optometry Giving Sight is commencing its 10th fundraising campaign to help those who are blind or vision impaired simply due to the lack of access to an eye exam and optometrist-provided vision care.
World Sight Day is Oct. 13 and will focus on the need for effective, sustainable eye health initiatives for children and adolescents, according to a press release from the group. The entire campaign will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31.
“If you can’t see, you can’t learn, and that condemns many to a life of poverty and disadvantage,” Juan Carlos Aragon, OD, global chair of Optometry Giving Sight said in the press release.
Over the past 10 years, thousands of optometrists, their staff, patients, students and colleagues in the industry have taken the World Sight Day Challenge by making a tax-deductible donation or by raising funds, according to the release.
Funds raised will help support Our Children’s Vision, a global campaign to bring better vision, and eye health services to 50 million children by 2020 in addition to ongoing support for optometry development programs, which train local people as optometrists.
