Alcon introduced Dailies Total1 Multifocal contact lenses, which are designed to address end-of-day dryness and discomfort experienced by wearers after age 40.

The lenses provide “seamless distant, intermediate and near vision,” with the comfort of the Dailies Total1 water gradient lens technology, the company said in a press release.

Dailies Total1 Multifocals use Alcon’s Precision Profile lens design, which is also found in Alcon’s Air Optix Aqua and Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus multifocal contact lenses.

"With Dailies Total1 Multifocal, Alcon has designed a unique contact lens that answers to the increased need for comfort and the expectation of a seamless visual experience of people with presbyopia,” Alcon CEO Mike Ball said in the release.

The company stated that the water content of this daily disposable lens approaches nearly 100% at its outermost surface.

“The hydrophilic surface of the lens is almost as soft as the surface of the cornea to enhance comfort, while the innovative optical design of this new multifocal lens offers a smooth progression of power designed to provide a seamless experience between distant, intermediate and near vision,” the release stated.

Dailies Total1 Multifocal contact lenses will be available in a power range of -6 D to +3 D and three add powers: low, medium and high. They will be commercially available in Australia, Canada, U.S. and Switzerland as of July 27, the company said, and are expected to be available in various EU countries by Sept. 1.
