ASCO joins interprofessional collaboration

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative announced that it has approved nine additional members, including the Association for Schools and Colleges of Optometry, through a new institutional membership category.

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) was established in 2009 by six organizations to advance interprofessional learning experiences and promote team-based care.

Founding members include:

American Association of Colleges of Nursing

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine

American Association of College of Pharmacy

American Dental Education Association

Association of American Medical Colleges

Associations of Schools and Programs of Public Health

New institutional members include:

American Association of College of Podiatric Medicine

American Council of Academic Physical Therapy

American Occupational Therapy Association

American Psychological Association

Association of American Veterinary Medicine Medical Colleges

Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry

Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions

Council on Social Work Education

Physician Assistant Education Association

IPEC’s mission is to ensure that new and current health professionals are proficient in the competencies essential for patient-centered, community and population oriented, interprofessional, collaborative practice, according to the press release.
