The World Council of Optometry announced that its new president, Uduak Udom, OD, MPH, was inducted during the WCO/FEDOPTO First World Congress of Optometry in Medellin, Colombia.

Udom began practicing in 1978 and is a native of Nigeria.

She is a fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry and the Nigerian college of Optometrists, according to a Salus University press release.

In 2010, Udom was the first female elected as president of the African Council of Optometry (AFCO).

A graduate of Salus University, she was instrumental in establishing the relationship between AFCO and Salus, resulting in partial scholarships to African optometrists for the Salus online MPH program, the release said.
