Single LipiFlow procedure improves meibomian gland function

A single LipiFlow procedure can improve meibomian gland function and relieve symptoms, according to a review from Korb Associates and the Duke Eye Center.

The researchers studied data from 23 meeting presentations and eight peer-reviewed published studies on meibomian gland dysfunction and the effect of the vectored thermal pulsation procedure (LipiFlow, TearScience), according to a TearScience press release.

In 30 of the 31 studies, symptoms improved following a single treatment. On average, all of the studies showed an improvement in meibomian gland function with the LipiFlow treatment, according to the release.

Specifically, two long-term controlled studies demonstrated mean reduction of dry eye symptoms for 6 months and an improvement in gland function for 12 months, after just one LipiFlow procedure.
