Private practitioner networks contract with ACOs

Two networks of independent optometrists recently announced relationships with accountable care organizations.
Vision Source doctors will deliver vision and eye health services to members of UnityPoint Health, an integrated system that provides care to 4.5 million patients annually in Iowa, Western Illinois, Southern Wisconsin and South Dakota, according to a press release from Vision Source.
IDOC announced in a press release that its doctors will now participate in the ProHealth health care delivery network as a preferred provider of eye care and related services. ProHealth Physicians serves more than 380,000 patients in Connecticut.
Vision Source President and CEO Jim Greenwood said in the company’s press release, “Vision Source and UnityPoint Health are a natural fit, as both organizations are committed to ensuring high levels of patient care, satisfaction and outcomes.”
UnityPoint Health Vice President of accountable care, Aric Sharp, said in the release, “Patient access is vital, and Vision Source is a well-known brand that patients trust.”
Vision Source has similar relationships with several dozen accountable care organizations (ACOs) across the country, according to the company.
James Cox-Chapman, MD, chief medical officer at ProHealth, said of its agreement with IDOC: “We’re looking forward to collaborating with IDOC members not only on eye health issues, but on detection and management of chronic conditions and their effects, particularly diabetes.”
IDOC President and CEO, Dave Brown, also commented in the IDOC press release.
“This partnership will enable our members in Connecticut to expand their patient bases, while participating in a holistic approach to health care that enhances clinical excellence,” he said. “We are currently seeking similar relationships across the U.S. and look forward to creating new opportunities for additional IDOC members.”
Vision Source is based in Kingwood, Texas, and has nearly 4,000 doctor members. IDOC is based in Norwalk, Conn., and has more than 2,100 doctor members.
