SightRisk USA will launch its new cloud-based algorithm for age-related macular degeneration at Vision Expo West in Las Vegas on September 17.

The technology will be exclusively distributed by MacuHealth Distribution Ltd., the company said in a press release.

A team of research scientists who assessed and documented both modifiable lifestyle and nonmodifiable risk factors of thousands of patients who were diagnosed with AMD developed SightRisk. The researchers also reviewed more than 300 published scientific articles.

The algorithm’s questionnaire was designed to prioritize, compile and weigh the risk factors associated with the patient’s answers and create a unique report. This report can assist eye care professionals in determining courses of action for patients to delay or even prevent the onset of blindness from AMD.

“Optometry has an opportunity by implementing SightRisk to provide greater value to their patients’ overall health care and as a contributing member of an accountable care organization,”

Frederic Jouhet, managing director of SightRisk, said in the release.
