The World Council of Optometry recently held its first World Congress of Optometry, during which three awards were presented to international recipients for outstanding contributions to the field of optometry.

The first was the WCO Distinguished Service award, presented to Prof. George Woo, OD. The WCO International Optometrist Award was presented to three individuals: Allan Jones, OD; Shehzad A. Naroo, PhD; and Bina Patel, OD. The Paul Berman Young Leader Award was presented to France Nxumalo.

“Each and every one of these award winners has made a significant and lasting contribution to the promotion and furtherance of their profession,” Susan Cooper, OD, WCO president, said in a press release from the council.
