Vmax launches space-saving refractor

NEW YORK – Vmax Vision Inc. introduced the Perfectus, a combination wavefront autorefractor and subjective refractor in a space-saving instrument, here at Vision Expo East.

The Perfectus combines the PSF Refractor with the PSF Integro, which reduces the refraction lane from 16 to 20 feet to a 3-foot by 4-foot space, according to Shui Lai, PhD, chief executive officer of Vmax. He said the Perfectus also includes a wavefront autorefractor that uses point spread functions (PSFs) to achieve a more stable and repeatable refraction.

Lai explained at a press conference that first an objective wavefront refraction is performed, the starting point is linked to the PSF refraction and refined, and then a subjective refraction is performed in 30 seconds to attain 20/20. In an additional 30 seconds, 20/12 can be achieved, he added.

Lai noted that the auto and subjective refractions are performed in one sitting. “There’s no need to move the patient,” he said.

The PSF Refractor, which was introduced 3 years ago, allows for measurements to 0.05 D in 5-degree increments, Lai said.
