A new CPT code for measuring corneal hysteresis has been published, according to a press release issued by Reichert Technologies, which manufactures the Ocular Response Analyzer.

The Category I CPT code, 92145, went into effect Jan. 1.

“This change relieves a significant administrative burden for ophthalmologists and optometrists who perform corneal hysteresis and seek reimbursement for this diagnostic test," Kevin J. Corcoran, COE, CPC, CPMA, FNAO, president of Corcoran Consulting Group, said during the 2015 Hawaiian Eye meeting. "For most payers, including Medicare, Category III CPT codes are not covered, while Category I codes are usually covered and reimbursed."

As detailed in the release, the code replaces the temporary Category III CPT code, 0181T, and now describes a test performed bilaterally or unilaterally.
