DENVER – Patients whose eye care professionals switched them to a hydrogen peroxide disinfecting solution reported high levels of comfort with their contact lenses all day and at the end of the day, according to a poster presented here at the American Academy of Optometry meeting.

Peroxide lens care systems are often prescribed to help solve lens wear-related issues of discomfort (particularly dryness symptoms) or to avoid suspected sensitivities to some multipurpose solution formulations,” Marjorie Rah, OD, PhD, FAAO, said in the poster. “They are highly regarded for their cleaning, disinfection and comfort characteristics.”

Rah reported that 324 independent eye care professionals had their patients switch to Bausch + Lomb’s new PeroxiClear solution. Patients were asked to complete an online survey at baseline to provide lens wear demographics and after 7 days of using the new solution.

Superior all-day comfort was reported by 87% of the 2,010 patients, and superior end-of-day comfort was reported by 85%, according to the study abstract. Ninety-five percent agreed that the new solution was gentle on their eyes, and 94% reported that it did not irritate their eyes. Three-fourths of participants said that having the lenses ready to wear in 4 hours was important to them.
