LAS VEGAS – Optovue unveiled its new iScan optical coherence tomographer here at Vision Expo West.

The company’s iWellness software is used to guide the patient through the entire exam with the iScan, requiring minimal operator involvement, according to a press release.

Christina Kirby, Optovue product marketing director, told Primary Care Optometry News that this “entry level OCT system offers more of an eye health care exam. The wellness screening looks for pathology in the retina and ganglion cell complex.”

Kirby explained that the automated system requires minimal operator and patient skill. The machine instructs the patient when to fixate and when to blink, taking 2 minutes total to image both eyes.

“The iScan is designed to be the simplest OCT on the market for practices who want to deliver better eye care and generate a revenue stream,” Kirby said.

The iScan is available immediately in the U.S. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS
