LAS VEGAS – Nearsights Monocles shared its three styles of custom monocles here at Vision Expo West.

Chief executive officer James Berry told Primary Care Optometry News that monocles offer “a convenient, comfortable alternative to reading glasses.”

The company’s classic style monocles are available in 40-mm and 37-mm diameters, with a 34-mm version coming out in October, he said. Reading powers go as high 4 D in 0.50-D steps, and the monocles can be made with full prescriptions as well.

Sport monocles work more like magnifiers, Berry said, as you hold them instead of wearing them. The magnifiers are available in tortoise or white oak.

Ruggedized Tacticle waterproof monocles are designed to be used outdoors for occasional reading assistance in extreme conditions. They are available in circular or dog tag shapes, with a polycarbonate lens and silicone frame. The monocles come on a ball chain lanyard.

Berry said that Nearsights monocles are available through the company’s website but are also being distributed through eye care practices in Texas, Colorado and California.
