World Sight Day, which supports Optometry Giving Sight and its annual fundraising campaign, the World Sight Day Challenge, will take place this year on Oct. 9.
According to a press release from Optometry Giving Sight, World Sight Day Challenge Coalition members have planned numerous events to raise awareness of eye health and to provide eye wear to people in need.
Coalition members include ABB Optical Group, Alcon, AllAboutVision.com, CooperVision, Essilor of America, TLC Laser Eye Centers, Transitions Optical, Vision Source, ZeaVision, Zeiss and VSP Global businesses Eyefinity, Marchon Eyewear, VSP Optics and VSP Vision Care.
Various activities have been planned on and around World Sight Day by coalition members, according to the press release.
The Special Olympics Opening Eyes program and Essilor Vision Foundation are coordinating a screening on World Sight Day at the Essilor campus in Dallas, partnering with Lions Clubs International and the Alcon Foundation.
ABB Optical is selling Optometry Giving Sight wristbands and its staff will raise money in September as part of the company’s Give Back program.
Many other coalition member companies are holding events and fundraisers.
According to Optometry Giving Sight, more than 600 million people globally do not have access to proper eye care and eye wear. For more information about the World Sight Day Challenge, please visit givingsight.org.
