Alcon defines ocular surface wellness activity

After a 2-day advisory board meeting moderated by Kelly K. Nichols, OD, MPH, PhD, FAAO, Alcon issued a statement defining ocular surface wellness activity and its value to patients and the eye care community.

“Ocular surface wellness, a prerequisite for ocular comfort, clear vision and healthy looking eyes, is promoted through engaging eye care practitioners, patients and the public in education and awareness activities, encouraging early detection and management, and efforts to preserve lifelong ocular surface health,” Alcon stated in a press release.

The advisory board’s discussions have centered around the challenges of defining and describing ocular surface wellness gaps; gaps in published data on the natural history of ocular surface conditions; and the need for protocols for screening, diagnosis and management of ocular surface conditions, according to the company.

Alcon said in the press release that it is working with advisory board participants to develop a variety of derivative works for release over the coming year.
