World Council of Optometry announces new membership categories
The governing board of the World Council of Optometry has established two additional categories of membership: individual and corporate.
The organization reported that it hopes to make the WCO more accessible to people who want to support its work.
The WCO announced that individual memberships will be open to individual optometrists, vision scientists, faculty, researchers and eye care industry professionals. Corporate memberships are open to commercial organizations otherwise not eligible for associate or affiliate membership who have a “recognized and approved business relationship” with an associate, affiliate or individual WCO member.
“Individual and corporate members must endorse the WCO concept of optometry and support WCO’s vision and mission,” the group said.
WCO President Susan Cooper, OD, said in the announcement that the organization wishes to grow its membership by opening it to individuals and organizations around the world that support the WCO.
“You do not have to be an optometrist to be interested in our mission to promote eye health and vision care as a human right through advocacy, education and policy development,” Cooper said.
