The Board of Trustees of the American Optometric Association announced in a press release that it has named Jon Hymes as its new executive director.

Hymes appointed Renee Brauns, who has served as chief operating officer since 2010, to the newly created associate executive director position.

The appointments are effective July 29, according to the press release.

Since February, Hymes served as AOA’s interim executive director. Before that, he managed the AOA’s Washington office for 9 years. He will continue to be based in Washington.

Brauns, a 15-year veteran of the AOA, served as interim deputy executive director this year. She has overseen the St. Louis office as chief operating officer since 2010.

According to the release, the AOA conducted a nationwide executive search and assessed the qualifications of more than 100 applicants for its top staff position.
