TOS elects board members

The Optometric Society selected four members for its board of directors, the organization announced in a press release.

The election was held on May 22 following a meeting at the 2014 Annual CE Meeting in Chicago in April.

The Optometric Society (TOS) members elected Lisa Shin, OD, as president; Gary Litman, OD, FAAO, as vice president; James Sanderson, OD, as secretary; and Michael Santarlas, OD, as treasurer.

“We must carefully monitor attempts to over-regulate and dictate to our profession," Shin, who was president in the interim as well, said in the release. "I am particularly concerned about the increased reporting requirements: meaningful use, ICD-10, PQRS and whether any of it really demonstrates better quality patient care. Now is the time to speak up for ourselves and our patients. TOS aims to give individual optometrists a stronger voice in the profession.”

The board members will serve a 3-year term, as noted by TOS in the release.

TOS introduced itself in January and restricts its membership to optometrists.
