Mitsui Chemicals announced at the end of May that it has obtained SunSensors from Corning Inc.

According to a press release, the acquisition includes the business rights of photochromic lens material, patents for photochromic monomer and the trademark rights of SunSensors and SunSensors+.

"Mitsui Chemicals' acquisition of Corning's photochromic lens material business, which is showing staggering growth in not only developed markets but also in developing markets such as India and Brazil, will contribute to the growth of the company's vision care materials business while expanding the product lineup to improve its ophthalmic lens material solutions and contribute to optimized customer service," the company explained in the release.

Mitsui Chemicals, which, in part, manufactures and supplies specialty materials for the health care industry, plans to develop additional photochromic lens material as well as increase the sales growth of SunSensors products by utilizing its established global network, as detailed in the release.
