To the Editor:

I would like to let you know how much I enjoy Primary Care Optometry News and its ability to deliver pertinent information to optometrists in a clear and concise manner issue after issue. You provide clinically pertinent information without the fluff.

In the February 2014 issue, in “ODs will need to conduct business differently in the near future, experts say” in a round table discussion, PCON Editor Dr. Michael DePaolis mentions a one-page handout he gives his dry eye patients. Over the past year I have made an effort to better address our many dry eye suffers with more than the same old over-the-counter lubricants. I have had good outcomes with nutritional supplements and collagen plugs, which patients are accepting more, as well as lid expression.

Education is an important component of our care, and a patient handout is a great idea.

Keep up the great job.

Carl A. Sakovits, OD
