World Sight Day Challenge raised $850K in 2013
Thanks to the efforts of optometrists, their staff and industry around the world, the 2013 World Sight Day Challenge raised more than $850,000. The countries that participated in the challenge included Australia, Canada, U.S., U.K., Ireland, Norway, Singapore and Italy.
Optometry Giving Sight highlighted on its website that fundraising efforts included fun runs, cocktail nights, car washes and a charity sky dive.
To further encourage patient donations, this year marked the debut of World Sight Day Challenge wristbands used by many practices.
Optometry students continued to fundraise in creative and motivating ways, such as the Optoms Cycling for Sight in the U.K., where this international bicycle riding event raised almost £20,000. NOVA Southeastern University in the U.S. raised an impressive $12,097 based on the Optoms cycling model.
Optometry Giving Sight explained that eye care companies showed their support as well. CooperVision staff held fundraising events in all of their global offices. Alcon Foundation supported the “Kids Celebration of Sight” program. VSP Global also made an impact by forming the World Sight Day Challenge Coalition, which provided eye care and eye wear to 4,000 people in need.
