The World Council of Optometry  reported that the group participated in the Global Forum on Human Resources for Health to understand trends of human resources for health, coordinate with other organizations involved in ocular health, better understand the Brazilian health care system and promote the council and the optometric profession

More than 2,000 policy makers, experts and civil society in the health care sector from more than 93 countries met for the forum, which focused on universal health coverage this year, according to the World Council of Optometry (WCO). The November meeting took place in Recife, Brazil, and was coordinated by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.

During the forum, several resources were launched, including a declaration of renewed commitment toward universal health care coverage, according to an official report resulting from the event. Human Resources for Health committed itself to developing a sustainable health workforce, enhancing the skills and promoting equal opportunities for health workers, harnessing the potential of innovative approaches and implementing other measures in a call to action for bettering the world's health care.
